EXHIBITION: 15th Havana Art Biennial

It’s an honor to be invited by by @factoriadesign and together with @grupodx5 to participate in the 15th Havana Art Biennial. 🙏✨ This week, the research group is traveling to Havana for the Espirales Trasatlánticas exhibition, organized by Factoría Diseño (@factoriadesign) as part of the Biennial (@bienaldelahabana). The exhibition features works by Dx5 members Almudena Fernández Fariña (@almudenafernandezfarinha), Ana Soler Baena (@anasolerbaena_art), Anne Heyvaert (@anne.heyvaert.14), Antía Iglesias (@antiaiglesias17), Carlos Fer (@carlxsfer), and José Andrés Santiago Iglesias, along with guest artists @esther_pizarro_y and @elenajimenezart.

Curator Concha Fontenla (@concha.fontenla) explores a transatlantic connection between Galicia and Cuba, involving institutions such as the DIDAC Foundation (@didac.gal), the Galician Innovation Agency, Galicia Handicrafts, the Taller Experimental de Gráfica in Havana, and the Dx5 research group.

The exhibition opens this Friday, November 15, 2024, and will remain open until February 28, 2025.

As part of this program, I am presenting my installation BioLabMatrix. This piece is designed as an experimental biomaterials lab where spirulina biomass (fresh or dehydrated) serves as the common element in its testing and formulation. BioLabMatrix acts as a library of materials, organized in a hexagonal matrix—an invisible lattice that, when illuminated, becomes a “game board” drawing viewers closer to the materiality of the biomaterials, preserved in glass Petri dishes. It’s a mosaic of connectors, links, and hexagons that helps reinterpret unconventional formulas within our bio-display.
