Acciona Pavilion, Expo Zaragoza 2008

The artistic intervention Urban Fossils takes place in the space dedicated to the Earth in the Acciona pavilion for Expo Zaragoza 2008, and aims to show how big cities have managed to fossilise their history. It represents a large crack or space worn down by the passage of different atmospheric agents that contains in its interior impressions of objects from our civilisation (mobiles, cans, batteries, cardboard, etc.). This negative space simulates an enormous cut in the wall, as if it were a wound, which reveals inside it all the actions that contemporary man has exercised on Nature. As in a kind of archaeological site, the visitor becomes aware of the daily iconography and the waste elements that we throw into our planet. Cast aluminium for the inside of the crack and laminated lead for the rest of the wall envelop a curved space six metres high by thirty-one metres long.
