Urban Garden, 2010
Iron, vegetal elements
500 x 160 x 60 cm.
Dehesa del Boyal Park, Navas del Marqués, Ávila, Spain
The interesting urban morphology of the municipality of Navas del Marqués divides its plan into three differentiated areas: on the left a labyrinthine zone where the main housing estates are located; in the centre the most geometric and reticulated part and, finally, on the right, a more historic area with a much more organic character than the rest. With these three areas in mind, the Urban Garden intervention seeks to make an allusion to the municipality by creating three large flowerbeds that recreate an abstraction of the urban fabric of the town. Developed in 3 mm thick sheet iron, volumes of different heights generate three enormous metallic containers where the residents of the municipality can recreate an urban garden. Inside each parterre there are aromatic herbs, grass and other plant species. Each year the planting can be renewed and even create an "urban garden", so that the residents themselves can maintain the site.
