INNER GEOGRAPHIES © 2004

The city, in its advance, eats away at the landscape, and its most evident metaphor is that of roads and motorways that open the way to make space habitable, paying the price of opening wounds in the earth with their advance.
Caja-Mapa I-VI © 2004 :: stainless steel, methacrylate, wax, thread, zips :: 68 x 45 x 20 cm.
The body is understood in this work as an imagined topography, but the gaze, far from being bucolic and conciliatory, is defined by its "silent" aggressiveness. These same "wounds", these voluntary channels, are metamorphosed in Esther Pizarro's work into zips, as the artist makes use of her double conception of an instrument that opens and closes and, therefore, that offers and hides; that shows, but also hides.
