Vegetal Patterns, 2006
Stainless steel
Variable dimensions
Pradolongo Park, Madrid
Architect: José Luis Esteban Penelas

Understanding the park as a large plant fabric, the intervention draws a pattern on the territory, solidified with metallic lines, in an act of inviting the walker to "trace" this scheme with his or her movement, that is, with the act of walking, and to "cut" the plant fabric with the gaze.  Thus, by means of the walk, the spectator is subjected to different tracings on the pavement that overlap one another, as in a pattern sheet that superimposes numerous patterns on each other. The drawing rescues the original lines of the drawing of the park and by means of a system of codes, which responds to the rules of industrial and textile pattern-making, creates two zones where the artistic intervention is located. Zone A comprises an approximate area of 3.5 x 4 metres and zone B of 6.5 x 4 metres. The intervention is carried out on the pavement by inlaying stainless steel sheet metal to form a pattern, according to the design of the plans provided in the architectural project.
