Inter-relationships is a reflection on the hybrid between architecture and sculpture. From the sculptural practice, the projects carried out in recent years have explored the enigmatic and mysterious space of the city. Works in solitary or in collaboration, investigate the paradigm of how we learn the urban space, how our body produces plastic drifts to perceive the continuous movement of the city and how our mind generates imaginary maps made from impressions and remnants of lived experiences.

With the idea of the Roman opus incertum, the architects Fuensanta Nieto and Enrique Sobejano proposed to me the challenge of creating the exterior facing of the new Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos in Mérida. The initial idea was to turn one of my sculptures inside out. As if it were a dress, the fragile and delicate interior of the negative of the city would become a protective shell made of concrete, strongly textured, which would give identity and reference to the building under construction.

The collaborative project for the Mérida Exhibition and Conference Centre has its starting point in three concepts: PATTERN-COURT-TERRITORY: PATTERN-COURT-TERRITORY. From the outset, the idea that would catalyse the intervention was to be found in the territory of the city of Mérida itself, in its urban fabric, in its road network. Understanding the territory of the city as an enormous fabric, a flexible mantle, a textured skin; the different façades that construct the walls of the building were patterned, lowering their vertical planes towards the horizontal of the territory; in order to subsequently cut these patterns and be able to make the exterior enclosure of the architectural volume.
