“Mapping Complexity. Supercities”
Fundación Metrópoli, Ecobox, Alcobendas, Madrid, Spain
Curated by: Ana Gorroño

18/02/2016 to 04/03/2017

We live in a world of cities, our planet is becoming increasingly urban. Cities are the new engines of the global economy and at the same time they have become the main actors in the challenges of climate change and the fight against inequality and poverty. We call Supercities the places capable of discovering the "Intelligence of the Territory"; they are the nodes of innovation and creativity that will allow us to glimpse the solution to the great challenges facing humanity today.
This exhibition is part of Fundación Metrópoli's Cities Art programme in which we aim to explore the connections between the world of Art and the cities of the future. Art can be a key stimulus to develop creativity in different disciplines, to better understand the world we live in and to discover the challenges we face on our small Planet.
Esther Pizarro is one of the artists who has worked most sensitively on the relationship between art and architecture and on the relationship between art, technology and the city. This exhibition interprets from an artistic perspective major current issues of our cities such as mobility, the connection between cities, polycentric urban systems, physical and digital connections, Big Data and city profiles, and finally, the inherent complexity between urban reality and landscape. In a crossroads of methodologies for interpreting the city and the territory, and based on research carried out by Fundación Metrópoli, three sculptural installations map the multiple layers of meaning and visualisation of the contemporary city.
